Understanding Toilet Repair

Most toilet faults come from a handful of parts: the fill valve that refills the tank, the flapper or flush valve that releases the water, the wax seal between the bowl and the floor, and the supply line and shutoff at the wall. Each is a repair on its own, and each shows itself in a different way.

Signs the Toilet Needs Attention

  • It runs between flushes or refills on its own: usually a flapper that no longer seals or a fill valve that will not shut off
  • It flushes weak or needs two flushes: a flush valve, a low tank level or a blocked rim
  • It rocks on the floor: loose closet bolts or a flange that needs attention
  • Water at the base after flushing: a leak that needs checking at the seal, fixture and connections
  • Water on the floor near the wall: a supply line or shutoff valve drip

What the Repair Covers

  • Fill valve and flapper replacement, and the tank level set correctly
  • Flush valve replacement where the flapper seat has failed
  • Wax seal replacement and re-setting the bowl, with the closet bolts and mounting checked
  • Supply line and shutoff valve replacement at the wall
  • Seat replacement, including slow-close seats. We assess raised-seat needs separately for the person and the fixture

We check the tank parts, seal, mounting and accessible connections, then explain whether repair or replacement is the appropriate work. Work inside the wall or below the floor is not part of this service.

How We Plan and Complete the Work

  1. Diagnose the Fault

We check the tank, the seal, the mounting and the connections and show you what failed.

  2. Review the Written Scope

You receive the repair and the flat price in writing before approving, with the replacement option named if it fits better.

  3. Repair and Test

We fit the parts, set the tank level, re-set the bowl where needed, and test the flush and the connections.

Questions About Toilet Repair

Usually the flapper no longer seals against the flush valve, or the fill valve does not shut off at the right level. Both are common repairs. We check which one it is before naming the part.

The closet bolts have loosened or the flange under the bowl needs attention. Movement can affect the seal. We check the mounting, flange, floor support and seal before recommending the repair.

Yes. Water at the base after flushing needs checking. We locate the source before recommending seal, mounting or fixture work, because water can reach the subfloor.

A cracked tank or bowl, or a fixture that no longer suits the person using it, points to replacement. A comfort-height toilet is often the right answer for aging in place. See our toilet replacement page.
