We look at the rail, brackets and structure beneath them before recommending a repair or replacement. A rail that moves when you grip it needs its attachment checked. For a new rail, we discuss the route and the person using it before choosing the layout.

No. We do not treat wallboard alone as suitable structural support or assume that a general-purpose toggle is an approved handrail attachment. We assess the structure behind the finish and the requirements of the rail system.
We discuss the grip shape, reach and route with your parent before selecting the rail. Bring any therapist recommendations. A rail that fits the stair also needs to suit the person using it.
The stair layout, applicable installation requirements and the needs of the person using it determine the proposed arrangement. We assess the route rather than assuming that the same layout works in every home.
