A ductless mini-split pairs an outdoor unit with one or more indoor heads. Each head heats and cools the room it serves, so the system works where ducts never reached: an addition, a sunroom, a finished basement, or an upstairs that runs hot in summer.
The inverter compressor varies its speed to match the load instead of cycling on and off. A single outdoor unit can serve one zone or several, each with its own thermostat control.
