Walk-In Shower Conversion

A walk-in shower you step into instead of climbing over the side of a tub, so a daily shower stops being the most dangerous part of the day. We take the step out, make sure the water runs to the drain and not across the floor, and put solid backing in the walls so a grab bar holds wherever the hand reaches for it. For you, or for a parent you want to keep safe at home.

What the conversion actually involves

The tub comes out and a walk-in shower goes in its place, kept in the same spot so the plumbing stays where it is. That keeps it a focused job rather than tearing the room apart.

The part that matters most is the part you cannot see once it is done. While the wall is open we put solid wood backing behind the tile so a grab bar anchors into something that will not give, and it holds when someone leans their whole weight on it. That is the moment this is really built for.

We set the floor so the water runs to the drain and not out toward you. A wet floor at the edge of a shower is exactly where a fall starts, so we get that right.

What we look at before quoting

  • How the person moves now, watched rather than described, including which hand is stronger
  • Whether they sit, and whether a fold-down seat needs backing and a height decided
  • The subfloor under the tub, because rot found after demolition changes the job
  • Where the drain sits and whether the slope can be made without moving it
  • Door swing and turning space, including whether a walker or chair has to get in
  • The wall construction behind the tile, which decides how bars can be anchored

Why this is not a bathroom remodel

A remodel moves fixtures, changes the layout and takes a crew and weeks. A conversion replaces the tub with a shower in the same footprint and leaves the room where it is. It is a smaller job, a shorter disruption, and it is the one that solves the actual problem, which is the step.

If what you want is a new bathroom rather than a safer one, we are not the right company for that and we will tell you so rather than take the job.

How we plan and complete the work

  1. Book a home safety assessment

We walk the bathroom with the person who uses it and write down what we find. The office confirms the assessment fee before the visit.

  2. Review the written scope

Pan type, threshold height, backing locations, bar positions and finishes, all in writing before you approve anything.

  3. Install and walk it through

We confirm the work dates after acceptance and the required deposit, then walk the finished shower with the person who will use it.

Common Questions

Will it actually be safe for my mom?

That is the whole point of the job. The step over the tub wall is gone, the floor is set so it does not stay wet where she walks, and the grab bar anchors into solid wood behind the tile so it holds when she leans on it. We fit it around how she actually moves, not around a standard drawing.

Will the bathroom end up looking like a hospital room?

No. A walk-in shower looks like a normal, clean bathroom, and the grab bars come in finishes that fit the room. It should feel like her home, just safer. Nobody walking in should be able to tell it was built for safety.

Can you put grab bars in at the same time?

Yes, and that is the right time to do it. While the wall is open we put solid backing in so the bars mount into wood, not just tile. If she wants more bars added later, the backing is already there and that visit is short.

How long is the bathroom out of use, and will it be a mess?

It is a focused job, not a full remodel, and we tell you the expected days in writing before you say yes. We protect the rest of the home, clean up at the end of each day, and if we find something rotted under the old tub we stop and show you rather than hiding it.

About Us

Family-Run. Built on Standards.

Mora Home Services has worked these towns for 10 years, with 20 years of trade experience behind the work. Jay and Jacob Mora founded the company together and run it side by side, both with real time in the field. The crews that work on your property are vetted and trained to the same standard. They built this company on one rule: do the job right, and leave the property better than you found it.

From heating and cooling to aging-in-place safety and high-value home repairs, we focus on the work that keeps a home comfortable, safe, and easy to live in. If you are helping a parent stay in their own home, aging-in-place safety work, from grab bars to a walk-in shower conversion, is some of the most important work we do. Every job is done with care, precision, and accountability.

  • Owner-led by both Moras, from the first call to the final walkthrough
  • Skilled across the whole list: heating and cooling, repairs, fixtures, doors, and walk-in shower conversions
  • Aging-in-place modifications, including grab bars and bathroom safety
  • Heating and cooling, aging-in-place safety, and the repairs a house needs over time
  • Honest assessments. We tell you what you need.
